Job Description and Responsibilities

The Journeyman Electrician directly will plan, lay-out, install, test and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
  2. Plan, diagram and lay-out for electrician's work.
  3. Ability to take the information on the print and put into the proper locations as specified and address discrepancies between the plans and the actual world.
  4. Ability to quickly adapt and understand the equipment, system operations, environment and basic construction to make a diagnosis of issues to come up with solutions and to make timely repairs.
  5. Ability to apply logic and reasoning for issues that arise during a day to come to appropriate and cost effective solutions.
  6. Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  7. Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  8. Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas.
  9. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, scaffolds, scissor, and boom lifts.
  10. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  11. Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).
  12. Understand and implement lockout/tag out procedures in a safe manner.
  13. Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.



 

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Must have current license
  • Must have working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Should have all necessary licenses for the jurisdiction in which the work is to be performed.
  • In addition, must have all necessary tools (see Electrician tool list).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • A typical workday starts at 8:00am and we expect employees in this position to work overtime, which may include weekends and extended overnight travel.
  • Work in all conditions which include: heat, cold, humidity, rain, sunlight, and wind.
  • Climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
  • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Possess full range of motion and flexibility.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
